RAINBOW FOUNDATION
A Non-governmental Organization
Rainbow Foundation was started in Norway in 1995 and registered the following year - 1996 - as an indipendent Charity Organization.
The mission:
Rainbow Foundation is a Charity organization (an NGO) that seeks to work closely with all willing partners so that the needy people in society are given an opportunity to get a decent life. The Foundation was established in February 1995 and was officially registered as an NGO in 1996.
The Foundation has its focus on:
1. Promotion of cultural and educational exchange programmes
2. Promotion of Education for the less fortunate
3. Promoting health education focusing on Protective measures on the spread of HIV and assisting AIDS affected people through health programmes. The Foundation also gives direct help to children and youth who have become orphans on loosing their parents to AIDS.
4. Promotion of small scale business ventures for the needy and assistance to the needy to set up small businesses in order to take a step forward and become self-reliant
5. Promotion of programmes that enhance cultural understanding between Immigrants and Norwegians living in Norway
Target groups:
1. Young Children
2. The youth
3. School drop outs due to failure to pay school fees
4. Girls who drop out of school due to accidental pregnancies: This group get specially designed programmes that give them short term courses/training so that they can establish and own small scale businesses and become self employed/ self-reliant person.
5. Immigrants and ethnic Norwegians living in Norway
Young Children
The foundation’s work is to assist young orphans in orphanage homes. This is done by working closely with institutions that run orphanage homes in the country.
The foundation will play an active role in the selection of the children that will get help. Those children whose parents succumbed to AIDS disease will be given priority when the selection is being made. Others with special needs will also get consideration.
The churches in Brazil will play a significant role in helping identify the needy.
Young Children
The foundation’s work is to assist children of all ages who are in orphanage homes. This is done by working closely with institutions that run orphanage homes in the country.
The foundation will play an active role in the selection of the children that will get help. Those children whose parents succumbed to AIDS disease will be given priority when the selection is being made. Others with special needs will also get consideration.
The Foundation focuses on activities that lead to cultural understanding between the groups. Discrimination and racism is one of the targetted areas so that the two groups live in harmony together.
Here, the foundation, engages in activities that bring the groups together, like cultural evenings and get together parties that enhances cultural understanding.
Immigants are encouraged to learn the Norwegian language so that they easily understand the social and political system of Norway. This helps in reducing misunderstanding within between the groups.
Norwegian, on the other hand, are encouraged to be tolerant towards immigrant’s culture and religious practices.
The foundation identifies and helps the youth by educating them in methods to prevent the spead of HIV.
The foundation’s work succeeds best when a close working relationship with youth groups is strengthened. The foundation focuses on all the youth who are sexually active. Working closely with health institutions helps locate those who require help. Schools is also given priority in this work because they teach sex education and opneness in the use of condoms and other preventive methods.
In this work, the churches are to be encouraged to be active and preach prevention methods.
In the start of the project over ten years ago, the Foundation focused its work on the immigrant youth but in the recent past the project was expanded to cover all the youth considered to fall under those categorised to be “sexually active.”
Target group - Girls who drop out due to accidental pregnancies:
The foundation will focus on helping girls who have dropped out of school due to accidental pregnancies: This group will get specially designed programmes that will give them short term courses/training so that they can establish and own small scale businesses and become self employed/ self-reliant persons.

The foundation will work closely with institutionsof higher learning in the effort to assist those who dropped out of school due to failure to pay their school fees. The main aim her is to assist them to get school fess and go back to schooland complete their education.
The group of school drop out to be targetted:
The Foundation will target those who need S5 or S6 educcation.

Target group - Young children
The foundation’s work is to assist young orphans and this is made possible by working closely with institutions that run orphanage homes in the country.
Children whose families died due to AIDS will receive our attention and yet our help will also be extended to other needy children whose situation is not neccessary caused by loosing parents or relatives but that they have other special needs and require support to get a decent livelihood
