ISLAMABAD, March 12 (Xinhua) -- The lawyers and some political parties on Thursday started their long march from across the country towards Islamabad, demanding the restoration of the judges sacked when a state of emergency was imposed in 2007, the private TV channel DAWN NEWS reported.

Despite the crackdown by the police, lawyers started to march, joined by the opposition party Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

Protestors also started to pile up in Quetta, capital city of southwestern Balochistan province and they were expected to set off for Islamabad.

According to a plan unveiled earlier, the protestors are scheduled to reach Islamabad on March 16 and stage a sit-in for indefinite period until the restoration of the judges who were sacked in November 2007 when then President Pervez Musharraf announced a state of emergency.

Meanwhile, the government has put in place stringent security measures across the country especially in the federal capital.
