Oil tycoon Yagnesh Devani, who is accused of stealing Sh2.4 billion, now wants the courts to withdraw a warrant of his arrest to enable him come out and give his side of the story. The man who is behind the oil scandal says prior to being charged, he was not afforded an opportunity to state his version of the alleged theft of money from Kenya Commercial Bank.
Through his lawyer Katwa Kigen the businessman wrote a letter to the Nairobi chief magistrate’s court, the director of public prosecution, Mr Keriako Tobiko, and the police saying he is willing to co-operate with investigators.
Out of the country
He said the warrant of his arrest was obtained on grounds that he ran away and yet he didn’t. Mr Devani in his letter said he only learnt of his prosecution through the media while he was out of the country on religious matters.
The warrant was issued on January 14 after police said they could not find him to answer to fraud charges against him. According to the charge sheet, Mr Devani is accused of stealing Sh955,334,094 from Kenya Commercial Bank between July 31 and August 1, last year.
The businessman is also accused of stealing the money jointly with others not before court. Mr Devani has also been charged with stealing petroleum products valued at Sh1.5 billion.
People are tired of Indian businessmen who loot Kenya:
From Perera to Deepak Kamani, Kamlesh Pattni, Yagnesh Devani and Shezad Tejani and many other shrewd unscrupulous cons taking advantage of greedy kenyan leaders and stinking justice systems. We are sick and tired of this, and guess what, there is more to come...
